Hi, I'm Chase Swift
In 1990 I moved to California knowing no one. I enrolled at the prestigious Brooks Institute of Photography and graduated in three years with awards. My graduation day was April 23, 1993, which was my dad's birthday. That's still one of my proudest moments.
After graduation I went to work at Westlight, one of the top stock photo libraries in the world. There I built a library of images that were licensed around the world in ways I never could have predicted. The running lion behind these words is one of mine, and it became one of my best sellers. Each photo was made once and kept working for years.
In one year alone, stock photography earned me over $60,000 in passive income. That income has dropped since then, but I still earn royalties today.
Along the way I found out how much I love teaching. I flew to Hong Kong to teach Photoshop to two very successful brothers in the stock photography business. Later I gave Photoshop presentations at Outdoor Writers Association of America conferences. Helping people learn is still my favorite part.
Later I applied that same idea to YouTube. My channel, Five Free Tools, has over 16,000 subscribers and more than 5.3 million views, with 13 videos passing 100,000 views each. Like my photographs, my videos keep working every day, helping people I've never met.
That's the library principle: make it once, and let it keep working for you.
